Mannan Slider’s Dossier: Born in the depths of Coruscant, Quin’gotzo, and his twin sister Izeult, were born into a poor family. Their parents, being among the many who were struggling to find work at the time, often had to beg local restaurants for refused orders to feed the two children and themselves. Other times, they’d eat only rice for days. As Quin grew into his teenage years, he began to recognize the struggle his parents went through to raise him and his sister. While he was still too young to start to legally work, Quin took to the streets in search of a means to provide for his family. One day, as he walked the upper levels, Quin observed a decent looking fellow bump into a Twi’lek business man on a Holocall. After being apologized to by the man, the Twi’lek scoffed and stomped off as he resumed his business call. The other man then turned around and began to count the credits he had pulled from the Twi’leks pocket. Quin was shocked, never had he seen such an act, let alone done in such an efficient manner. He thinks to himself for a time, as his eyes follow the pickpocket into an Alleyway. “He made it look easy. I could do that.” Quin goes home, and tries to practice taking things from his sister’s pockets, and after MANY tries over the course of a week, he begins to succeed. Finally Quin worked up the courage to try to pickpocket someone else in the public, and went for another walk. As he looked amongst the people littered about the Middle levels, Quin struggled to find a target he thought to be profitable. After an hour of wandering, he gave up on looking for the perfect target, and just decided to pick the next person he could find alone. He comes across a Zabraki female, who was walking while reading her datapad. “Perfect.” Quin thought to himself, as he then emulated the actions of the man from a week before. Bumping into her, he tried to slip his hand into her pocket, which he did, only to find it empty, and his hand now resting on her thigh. The Zabrak woman screamed as she felt his hand, and began to swat at Quin’s head, yelling for the authorities. From behind her, a voice is heard, “Blast, what did my son do now?” The woman stops, and turns around, as Quin looks up expecting to see his father, he sees the Pickpocket he was trying to mimic. The woman explained what Quin had done, and that she wanted him punished for even attempting such an act. To which the man looked down to Quin and sighed, before reassuring the woman that Quin would receive the strictest of discipline for his actions. Satisfied with the man's response, the Zabrak woman stomped away. The man put his hand on Quin’s shoulder, and told him to follow, as he disappeared into an alleyway. As Quin followed, he felt uneasy as they left the eyes of the public. They got deeper into the Alley, the light diminished, and the man stopped and turned around. He extended his hand and produced a silver bracelet, and a few credit chits. “You should refine your skill and pick better targets.” he says, as he hands them over to Quin, who stood dumb founded. The man explained who he was, and that his name was Palpoltov. He shared a few tips to Quin on how to better pick his targets, and how to go unnoticed, before leaving Quin alone in the alleyway. Quin rushed back home to hide the stolen goods before the woman noticed they were gone. Years go by, and Quin had begun to harness his skills in pickpocketing, leading to him massing himself a fair amount saved from pawning the goods off. Though part of him always wanted to take it further, by cutting out the middleman. He wanted to sell his goods himself, rather than taking a reduced profit from the pawn shop. For the time though, as he lacked connections, he stayed to pickpocketing the unsuspecting, and used the money to provide food for his family, while saving for Cybernetic implants, from Sphinx Microsystems, to help him pick his targets easier. He never did see Palpoltov again, though he had hoped to be able to ask a few questions. As Iz and Quin aged into their mid twenties, that desire to branch out and expand their reach into sales intensified, no longer able to settle for the fraction of the value of what they were stealing. Quin began to put out the word to the few people he trusted, that he would be starting to take requests for goods. This was in the expectation that the majority of his requests would be for smaller items, such as jewelry and keepsakes. Izeult followed suit, focusing on gems and jewels of considerable value and selling to the highest bidder. Soon it came time for both of them to set their sights on new horizons. Izeult made sure that their parents had a good nest egg and left with a promise to send back more. Together, she and Quin boarded a shuttle to the outer rim, where the Commonwealth home world, Tal Vera, resided. Together they hoped to start an empire of their own, dealing in the stolen, the lost, and the magnificent.
